Research & Development of rail pads without grooves
2013.6.1

A conventional rail pad adjusts the spring constant (rail deflection, in other words) with grooves on its surface.

In order to improve the durability of the grooved rail, ESLITE has researched and developed two kinds of rail pad without grooves.

One is rail pad EST-1 formed rubber type that controls the spring constant by forming density and its law materials are EPDM and SBR. EPEM is known as excellent in durability and heat resistance. SBR has been used as a raw material of rubber pads for a long time.

ESLITE supplies a special rail pad to Hokuriku Shinkansen. It has been tested and approved by Railway Technical Research Institute. Its spring constant is 15 MN/mm, the lowest value among existing rail pads.

Another type is a rail pad with holes without grooves. Through holes in the intermediate of the pad adjust the spring constant. It is made of SBR conformed to JIS E 1117 requirements and applied to a rail pad which spring constant is up to 30 MN/m.
October 2014, we passed the performance test of Railway Technical Research Institute.
